Lookfar

The opening of the exhibition “Lookfar” by Sophie Durand will take place on 17 September at 18.00 at the Infinite Life Gallery (address Kopli 23). Afterparty in Burger Box with DJ Nextraxx and Harry Hummer. The exhibition is on show until 17 December and is open to the public 24/7.

The work of Sophie Durand is thought of as being catalysed by experiences, observations and artefacts. Encounters set narratives in motion and generate into larger investigations, collections and networks through a diverse range of methods. “Lookfar” marks the end of this chapter of practice in Tallinn for Sophie though bringing together a series of small thoughts, holding onto a series of moments from the past and writing a letter to a beginning.

Sophie Durand’s multidisciplinary practice engages installation, collection, drawing and text. She is interested in archives, memory, landscape and experiences within landscapes as well as the dynamics of human mobility and migration. Her works often start with materials and ideas collected during fieldwork in landscape, particularly coastal areas. Sophie graduated from the Master of Contemporary Art Program at the Estonian Academy of Arts in June 2022 and has a BA Hons from Curtin University. Sophie has taken part in residencies at Fremantle Art Centre, the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and CCA Andratx, Mallorca, Spain and has exhibited and curated exhibitions in Australia, Iceland and Estonia.

Infinite Life Gallery (2019–...) is a project space operating in the limbo of oblivion and rebirth, which has now moved out of its former home and settled as a showcase gallery at Kopli 23 (on a wall next to Volta tram stop). Previously located at the LVLup! Museum of Video Games, the gallery hosted 13 exhibitions, providing a first opportunity for many emerging artists and designers to show their work in public. The program of the gallery is orchestrated by Patrick Zavadskis, Brigit Arop, Sigrid Liira and Camille Laurelli.
