Ever After
On 25 July 2026 the solo exhibition Ever-After by Sophie Durand opened at the Marcinkonys Station Gallery with a performative introduction to the exhibition unfolding on the train journey to Marcinkonys Station Gallery from 10:40 - 12:33.
The Marcinkonys Station is located at the end of its train line, does this also make it the beginning to all other elsewheres?
The exhibition Ever-After re-imagines the Station Gallery as a Weather Station from where all of the winds of the world are dispatched. This is a fictional artwork that asks audiences to suspend belief and co-create narratives. In Ever-After, audiences become weather makers and are invited to engage with a series of installations and objects to make scores(diagrammatic/instructional drawings) for wind patterns that can be sent to friends in envelopes, thus delivering weather conditions to that location.
The title of the exhibition is borrowed from Makoto Shinkai’s 2022 film Suzume where ‘The Ever-After’ is a timeless realm of the dead that is also home to a giant supernatural worm. On occasion this worm attempts to escape through portals into present day Japan, thereby causing earthquakes.
The Marcinkonys Station Gallery is curated by Laura Garbštienė as part of Verpėjos (The Spinners) an artist run initiative founded in 2017 by artist Laura Garbštienė to research and discuss rural traditional lifestyle and nature preservation, activate discourse on changes and processes, both local and global.
